Respect Gets Respect in Family, School and Community Help us with our Valley-wide theme this year by fostering respect wherever you go! We would also love to know how you are spreading the word and ways you are promoting our theme. Please send in your nominations for the awards by 1. “Take a Stand” Award This award will be given to an individual or group who had the courage to take a stand against bullying and harassing behavior in our community and did an activity that promoted a culture of respect. 2. Respect for Youth” Award Award for a group/ organization or class that creates an environment of respect for all youth who participate: one in which all feel safe and valued for who they are; all feel they have useful contributions to make and feel a sense of belonging; and one which tolerates no bullying or harassment among any of its members. 3. “Family Friendly Business Award” This award is to be nominated to a business which exemplifies the values and practices of respect for employees who are parents of school age children. Examples of best practice include: a safe, healthy, working environment with flexible time or personal days offered so that parents can attend parent/teacher meetings and important school functions; time off allowed for employees to volunteer in the community; child care assistance; family leave; and other policies and/or programs which enable families to balance work and family responsibilities. A family-friendly business creates an understanding, respectful work-place culture so that all employees feel valued and able to contribute 4.“Youth Friendly Business” Award This award is to be nominated to a business which exemplifies the values and practices of respect for youth in their work. Examples of best practice include: a safe, healthy, working environment with clear boundaries and expectations, support and opportunities for growth; education and skills training, flexible hours that honor school schedules and commitments; and a culture in which the young person feels valued and able to contribute.
